Natural color roving

For thousands of years, man has been selecting sheep to develop the best (often the finest) wool. All this selection was concentrated on white sheep. Most commercial flocks are all white and colored wool is considered a “defect.” Us handspinners and felters love the beautiful sheep shades: browns, grays, cinnamon and black (creamy white is good too!). Primitive breeds like Icelandic, Karakul (photo of RedGate’s Karakuls above) and Shetland have the widest range of colors in their sheep, but many breeds have color.
