Dorset Boot Sock Kits

Kits include pattern and enough yarn on center pull balls to knit a pair of boot socks. There are some really happy three or five color kits for graphic boot socks in 3-ply Dorset yarn (with 15% added nylon). Assembled on bamboo (grown here at Solitude), they make a great present, even for yourself.
Fiber farms: Millcreek and Day Spring Farms in Loudoun County, Virginia and Springs of Zion Farm in Berryville, Virginia.
Fiber content: 85% wool, 15% nylon for added strength and washability
Wool type, yarn design: Dorset is a breed of sheep raised primarily for its meat, but this Down type wool has robust crimp creating tons of spring and therefore great cushioning for feet on a hike…or doing barn chores. The yarn is woolen spun for extra warmth and is 3-ply, structurally a round yarn adding comfort and strength.
Size: heavy sport weight, 13 wraps per inch
Suggested needle sizes: sock pattern written for 5 double pointed needles (not included) size 3 (US). Depending on your knitting, size 2.5 or larger may work for you. For other applications, use larger needles
Gauge: for socks: 7 stitches per inch on size 3 (US) needles
Fiber care: Yarn is pre-washed. Finished projects can be hand washed for longest life. The nylon and Down type wool make this yarn more washable. We don’t promise anything…but we wash ours in the machine…
